How To Get Your Productivity Journey Started.

Ever had days when you feel like you didn’t get anything done? Do you want to become a productivity geek? You think of everything you need to do and you are instantly overwhelmed. Do you start one task and start thinking about the other, or do you never seem to have enough time to get things done? Let’s help you get your productivity journey started!

More productivity takes commitment and discipline. If these two things are present, being and staying productive is a lot easier. To begin you need to:

Set Goals:

Setting goals makes you think about your ideal future and gives you the drive to make it happen. You’ll need to ask yourself questions: “What do I want to accomplish in the next year?”

Goal setting makes you visualize what you are working towards so that you are grounded and confident. Also, because you have a goal, you’ll be able to measure your success, feel good about it, and know where to focus your efforts, time, and resources.

Try not to have too many goals at once because it can be hard to keep track of them, and you might not give your best effort to any of them. So, start with a few at a time and set up tasks that will bring you to them. As you achieve each task, you’ll get more energy to do more

Map Out The Plan For Your Goal

For being a productivity geek, You need to write down the path to your goal and create some sort of plan. That is the only way you will know how you’ll get to your goal. Working on a goal without a plan is like starting a journey without a route in mind. You are going to have problems getting to your location. You need to again answer questions like; What do I want to do? Where am I going? How will I get there? How do I want to do it? etc.

For example, I have to go grocery shopping every week, I also need to pick the kids up from school daily, I have house chores, and I also have a presentation at work. I am also working on getting a promotion at work and I want to start a side hustle.  I won’t be able to juggle all these if I don’t create some form of “how to do what?” or “when to do what?” But if I take the time to write down or document everything in order of importance, it gets clearer,  and I can take one look at the list and know exactly what I need to do and how I need to do it.

Focus

It’s okay to be good at more than one thing, but you can’t do everything at once. It’s important that you choose one thing/task and focus on that, get it done, then move to the next for being a productivity geek.

We live in a time where we all try to multitask, however, multitasking isn’t always productive. Using your phone while you’re eating or checking your email while you’re with your family. It’s just something we do these days, but it doesn’t make us productive and it reduces the quality of our lives and relationships. When you focus,  distractions are blocked out, and you can get more done. So, work on one thing at a time and make sure to finish it

Define The Task And Goal Duration

This means deciding how long it should take to finish each step or when it should be done. This could mean I’ll finish it tomorrow, I’ll work on it tomorrow, I’ll work on it every Thursday, or I should have reached my goal by the end of the year.

It’s better to plan what your goals do every hour of the day, every day of the week, and every month of the year. This will help you manage your time better. Time planning can be challenging and tiring, but it’s what people who get a lot done do. At first, you might just give yourself one or two daily tasks and make sure you do them. But as time passes, you’ll realise how important it is to break the day into smaller tasks to get more done.

There are many ways to manage your time, such as having time boxes, task batches, and daily themes. This will help you get the most out of your time.

It’s great to want to be more productive, but you have to be determined because you’ll have to give up some habits. The first few weeks are the hardest, but you’ll get used to it over time. Even if you fall off the path once or twice, that’s okay, but it’s important to get back up and try again.

Know Your Strength

We are not the same, we are all different in terms of strength, size, ability, interests, upbringing, environment, etc. Just because Elon started a business doesn’t necessarily mean that Jack down the street should or can also do the same.

It could be a motivator for Jack to also start a business, but remember that we are different, so Jack may start a business, but whether it fails or succeeds, will be based on Jack’s strengths, what he likes to do, what he prefers to spend his time on, etc.

Knowing his strength will help him to determine whether he should outsource certain parts of the business he is trying to start. This way, he will focus on what his strong suit is and outsource the other parts so that his business can be efficient and productive.
