Africa is the most interesting and diverse continent on the earth. ` Home to an amazing variety of people, animals, climates, and spectacular sites – it is also known for its beautiful colorful clothing and art. It is the hottest and second-largest continent on earth.
Africa is where the human race first appeared and is home to Egypt – the world’s first great civilization.
The oldest human remains found to date were found in Ethiopia and are estimated to be about 200,000 years old.
The Sahara is the largest desert in the world and is bigger than the continental USA. Africa is the world’s second driest continent (after Australia).
The Nile River is the longest river in the world with a total length of 6,650 kilometres.
The lowest point in Africa is Lake Assal which is found in Central-eastern Djibouti. The crater lake lies 155 meters below sea level. This crater lake also takes the third position for the lowest land depression on earth. With a salt content 10x more concentrated than the sea, Assal is the world’s largest salt reserve.
The world’s largest non-polar desert is located in the Northern part of Africa. The Sahara desert spans over 9 million square km/3.5 million square miles.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on earth. Over 19,300 feet tall, glaciers can actually be found at its peak even though the mountain is located near the equator.

There are fewer people with internet connections in Africa than in just New York City alone.
There are over 1 million Chinese citizens on the African continent. Angola alone has a population of over 350,000 Chinese.

Did you know the CAT scan was invented in Africa by a South African named Allan Cormack? Developing and commercializing his idea in the United Kingdom, this African Inventor also won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for his invention.
